History

From among the large and intimidating talents that ruled the furniture business in the 1960s, the Brianza region, just outside Milan, engraved its place among them all as a skilled and trustworthy manufacturer of admirable and elegant goods. Many carpenters lost their fathers in the war, and thus were driven to work in small workshops, sweeping, sanding and working to the best of their abilities, mesmerized by the opportunity to develop the process of furniture making. This is where the artist’s love and enthusiasm for the craft flourished.

Brianza in 1962 was the most renowned region for furniture making and the artists produced original collections that were extremely well received by the rich and famous crowd of Milan and Europe.

Their dedication, passion and conviction have hence passed through generations prosperously; the tradition of manufacturing exquisite furniture lives on today with Casadora Furniture Corporation.

The Tradition

This collection is inspired by the masterpieces that made Italy known across the world, with a formidable reputation built over many decades of rising to the top of the furniture world.

Casadora decisively add a playful and decorative flair to some of the most traditional designs to allow a wider audience to appreciate the rigorous lines of the most respected design styles, such as Baroque, Rococo and major decors by the Italian school of masters such as Maggiolini.

Casegoods, components and accessories are entirely produced at our factories, including processes such as lost wax casting, mother-of-pearl and brass inlays, classical upholstery and the most traditional handmade woodcarving.

New Age

Our collections appeal to an increasingly wide audience across gender and age and Casadora is introducing its NEW AGE range of furniture, where our respect for the classical tradition meets a more innovative approach to design.

NEW AGE is the answer to the demand by sophisticated connoisseurs for contemporary luxury with an exclusive Italian touch of elegance and class in exclusively for Casadora by the Italian Designer Paolo Ciacci.

From Art Deco to modern pieces inspired by fashion, world crafts and innovative use of traditional techniques, Casadora offer a unique line of furnishings to enhance the contemporary interiors by balancing tradition and innovation.

Techniques

Casadora master and combine with confidence materials and techniques which belongs to the history of human arts: marble, glass and ceramics, working with veneers and woods, inlays of precious elements, the knowledge of hand painting, the ancient art of wax carving and brass casting…all at home in our factories.

Today, these traditional techniques still form an important part of general woodworking, cabinet-work, decorative painting and interior decoration for Casadora Furniture Corporation.

WOOD CARVING

Wood Carving

Wood carving is a form of working wood by means of a cutting tool (knife) in one hand and a mallet in the other, resulting in the sculptural ornamentation of a wood component.

The nature of the wood being carved limits the scope of the Designer since wood is nit equally string in all directions. The direction n which the wood is strongest is called grain, which may be straight, interlocked, wavy or fiddle back, etc.

Today technology allows manufacturing companies to use electronic machines to replicate in large volumes the original sample made with strenuous effort by the artisan Master wood carver and make available to a larger audience the beauty of classical style.

LOST-WAX CASTING

Lost-wax casting

Lost wax casting is the most antique and difficult process to manufacture brass objects and decors.

In our factory, the Designer creates an original model by carving solid wax; a mould is made, wax is poured into it and the coated piece is placed into a kiln, the wax melts and runs out. Later on, the shell is hammered away, releasing the rough casting, which is worked until the telltale signs of the casting process are removed. The final step is to polish and bring the brass décor to the intended luxury.

From the mighty Michelangelo to the humble craftsman, bronze has always been a metal loved by the Italian artists which produced objects for every conceivable purpose, great or small, from a door knob to the imperial statue.

The craftmanship is magnificent and of the highest quality, the design refined and symmetrical, sumptuous setting for fine candelabra, sconces, vases, clocks and rich mountings of furniture are entirely harmonious.

MARQUETRY

Marquetry

Marquetry is the art of applying veneer, mother-of-pearl and brass to form decorative patterns, designs. Many exotic woods can be employed, with veneers that retain stains well to provide colors not found in nature.

The technique of veneered marquetry had its inspiration in 16th century Florence. The craft was exported to France after the mid-17th century, to create unprecedented luxury providing furnishings to decorate Versailles and other royal residences of Louis XIV. Well know is Andre-Charles Boulle, who gave his name to a technique of marquetry called Boulle, and in Italy is Giuseppe Maggiolini with his neoclassical marquetry made in Milan at the end of the 18th century.

PIETRE DURE

Pietre Dure

Pietre Dure (from the Italian “hard stones”) is made from sliced colored stones, precisely matched, to create a pictorial scene or regular design. Giuseppe Montelatici (1864-1930), the most famous Florentine Pietre Dure artist, described this technique as “pittura per l’eternita” or “painting for eternity”.

The Medici family founded the “Opificio delle Pietre Dure” in 1588 for the purpose of developing this decorative form. A multitude of objects were created, where table tops are particularly prized, since these tend to be the largest specimens.

Modern examples are seen in luxurious decorative contexts and works of genuinely contemporary artistic fashion.

HAND PAINTING & GILDING

Hand Painting & Gilding

The history of painted furniture is as old as organized society.

Artifacts, frescoes and sculptural reliefs all reveal the importance of this art form and painters and gilders were hired to enhance secular furniture and objects of religious devotion as altars, cathedral interiors became more elaborate.

The term gilding covers a number of decorative techniques for applying fine gold leaves to solid surfaces such as wood, stone or metal to give a thin coat of gold. In the correct manufacturing process, the surface is coated with a sizing made of glue and water and then the gold leaves are applied.

And for the handpainting, as with all art forms, painted furnishings mirrored the societies they decorated. In example, Chinoiserie is the European interpretation and imitation of Chinese and East Asian artistic traditions. This trend appeared in the 17th century due to the rise in trade with China and East Asia, but the popularity peaked around the middle of the 18th century when it was associated with works by Francois Boucher, Thomas Chippendale and the rococo style.

Painted furniture and decors in the 19th century achieved new levels of refinement, providing personal expression and vibrant visual experiences to our homes.
